the VMAs

So I didn't get to actually 'watch' the VMAs in its entirety, but I manage to see some of the highlights. I think it was great that they had Britney Spears open the show, but her winning Best Female + Video of the Year and another award? That's a bit much. I think MTV was being overgenerous.

Pardon my ignorance but who the hell was the guy hosting the show anyway? He looks like he needs a good hair brush. He wasn't remotely funny either.

Rihanna opened up the VMA's with Disturbia..but although the costumes and the entrance was so cool, her performance was lacklustre. She squeaked out the song here and there, she should've just went with a voice over and save her the trouble of looking like she doesn't know how to sing..because we all know, Rihanna is a fabulous singer........................................right?

I wasn't terribly excited over anyone's performance this year and the only form of entertainment was when Slipknot took the stage and found a stowaway (the guy who plays McLovin in Superbad) and threatened to beat his ass.

So Chris Brown, Britney Spears, Pussycat Dolls were some of the winners tonight..I suppose this is a teen driven show so what else would we expect? I love watching the VMAs, mostly for the fashion and performances - everyone looked great but the performances were meh.

And who closed to show? The man who vowed never to do an MTV show - but of course, thats old news because he did it anyway - Kanye West. Debuting a new song he wrote two weeks ago (according to his blog), "Love Lockdown" where he..surprisingly sings? I don't know whether I'm buying his new song or not, I only heard it once. Maybe its one of those that need to grow on you, like, Umbrella (minus the ella, ella, eh eh eh eh part). But I just cant grasp the thought of Kanye singing? Maybe in his new album, "Good ass job" we'll be seeing more of it, but who knows, Kanye is always reinventing himself and at least he's leading the way to music of the future. Maybe my mind just isn't set in the future. yet.

I think people are more interested with the TIFF (Toronto International Film Fest) at the moment what with all the big celebs being up North! It's too bad Vancouver's film fest can't be as rich and posh as the TIFF. Maybe one day I might work for the TIFF!
